California:
Legislation is in place for an animal needing to be restrained in the back of a pickup truck. Resources: (Carrying Animal in Motor Truck -DMV, Transportation of Animals - DMV)
Delaware:
Legislation is under review to prohibit carrying a dog in the back of a truck that could cause the pet to be thrown from the vehicle. Resources: (Dogs in Pickup Trucks - US Humane Society)
Hawaii:
Legislation is under review to classify transporting an unrestrained animal in a pickup truck as being animal cruelty. Resources: (Animals in Pickup Trucks - US Humane Society)
Michigan:
Legislation is under review to prohibit driving a vehicle while holding an animal in the driver's lap. Resources: (Driving with Animals - US Humane Society)
Minnesota:
Legislation is under review for how to safely transport an animal in the cargo area of a motor vehicle, including cross tethered to the vehicle or contained in a container attached to the vehicle. Legislation is also under review to require a pet to be secured in order to avoid the pet from jumping or being thrown from the vehicle.
